William was born in Machester and lived in Salford.

He enlisted in Manchester during the June of 1916,and served on Home Defence at first. Later he had transport duties in Scarborough and Middlesex.

He was not successful in obtaining an overseas transfer.

He was taken ill with pnemonia in February 1918 and died in Hounslow Hospital.
