Samuel Hibbert (1846 - 1899)
Samuel Hibbert worked for the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Company for 30 years and was also a Sunday School teacher.
He was born in 1846 in Ardwick, Manchester. He worked in the cashier's department of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Company for thirty years and was highly respected by his office and general staff. He lived with his brother, Mr J.E.Hibbert, a well known member of the Salford Board of Guardians who had his business as a dentist and his residence in Broad Street, Salford. For 35 years, Samuel was a Sunday school teacher and a member of the choir at St.George's Church, Charlestown. He had a great interest in music and for fourteen years he was a member of the Pendleton Choral Union. Samuel Hibbert died on Monday 28th August 1899 in Pendleton aged 53.
The funeral took place at Weaste Cemetery on Thursday 31st August. The coffin was of polished oak with brass fittings and the plaque was inscribed "Samuel Hibbert, died 28th August 1899, aged 53 years". The service was read by the Curate of Sacred Trinity Church, Rev A Dixon. Samuel's remains were interred in plot B19 of the Church of England portion and the funeral arrangements were carried out by Messrs Coop and Sons.
