Peter Bolongaro was a Carver and Gilder and later a Print Seller in his father's business Dominic Bolongaro and Son, Market Street, Manchester.
He was born in 1817 in Salford. His father was Dominic Bologaro (born 1872 in Italy and died 1856 in Cheetham, Manchester) and his mother was Ellen (born 1789 in Manchester and died 1864 in Cheetham). His father was described as: "Manchester carver, gilder, print seller, ladies repository for fancy paintings, barometer and looking-glass maker. Trading at 2 Old Millgate (1817 – 32), 32 Market Street (in 1839) and 14 Market Street (in 1840). A banjo barometer and thermometer of mahogany with satinwood marquetry of conches and paterae is held by Manchester City Art Gallery."
Peter had three siblings: Mary (born 1814 in Salford, did not marry and died 1872 in Cheetham aged 59); James, a Drysalter, (born 1820 in Salford, married 1854 to Sarah Ann Wood and died 1877 in Cheetham, aged 58); and Ellen (born 1825 in Salford, did not marry and died in 1853 in Cheetham aged 28).
In 1848, Peter married Lucy Gale in Manchester. She was born in 1819 in Manchester. The 1851 census reveals that they lived at North Street Cheetham, Manchester, where Peter's occupation was Print Seller. They had a daughter, Lucy Mary, (born 1850 in Cheetham) aged 1, and a House Servant, Alice Hurst from Wigan. Later in 1851 they had a son Charles Dominic, but sadly he died on 21st July 1854 aged just three years and 5 months. Peter's parents also lived in North Street Cheetham in 1851. Dominic was aged 68 and a Print Seller, Ellen was aged 61, Mary was aged 37, James was aged 31 and a Dry Salter, and Ellen was aged 26.
According to Slater's Directories for Manchester and Salford Peter Bolongaro appeared in 1850 as Carver and Gilder living at 14 Cheetham Crescent, Cheetham; 1876, Print Seller living at 23 Rose Bank Cheetham Hill Road; and 1883, Print Seller living at 148 Bury New Road. He worked for his father at Dominic Bolongaro and Son, Print Sellers and Publishers to the Queen, 32 Market Street Manchester.
On 12th October 1890, the Tablet newspaper announced the marriage of Peter and Lucy's daughter. CREAN – BOLOGARO. "On the 3rd inst at St Chad's Church, Cheetham, by the Right Reverend Dr Collier OSB, late Bishop of the Mauritius, cousin of the bride, assisted by the Very Reverend Cannon Sheehan, V G Rector of St Chad's, and the Rev James Hayes, St Bede's College, Dr Richard Crean of Bury New Road, (Broughton), to Lucy Mary, only child of Peter Bolongaro, Cheetham Hill. No cards." Richard was a General Practioner, born in 1846 in Ireland.
On 5th May 1890, the Manchester Courier, Deaths column announced, "Bolongaro, on the 1st inst at her residence, Higher Broughton, LUCY, wife of Peter Bolongaro, in her 72nd year RIP. Requiem at St Chad's, Cheetham this day (Monday) at 10.30 am. In 1891 Peter was living with his daughter Lucy Crean, but only one year later he died on 31st May 1892 aged 75 and was re-united with his wife Lucy at Weaste Cemetery.
