As 2014 is the centenary of the start of the First World War, the Friends group will be researching soldiers who are commemorated on the gravestones in Salford's four cemeteries. So far, we have identified 1,020 at Weaste, 350 at Peel Green, 50 at Swinton and 60 at Agecroft cemeteries. We will be producing a quarterly Newsletter which will include the names of all the soldiers who died in the corresponding quarter, plus some biographies and news items about what was happening in Salford at that time. The Newsletter will be issued in February, May, August and November, the first one being on 1st August 2014. We are hoping to include all the Newsletters in a book in 2019.
